Haglöf Vertex 5 Ultrasonic Hypsometer
The Vertex 5 hypsometer is the preferred instrument for many forestry engineers to conduct accurate measurements of height, angle, and distances in the forest. The new Vertex 5 hypsometer improves upon the performance of the well-known Vertex 4, working exceptionally well in dense vegetation, even when the transponder is hidden.
Haglöf Vertex 5 Features
- Measures distances up to 30 metres or 100 feet with a resolution of 0.01 m or 0.1 ft even in dense vegetation, and with an accuracy of +-1% or better when calibrated
- Measures heights up to 999 metres or 3277 feet with a resolution of 0.1m/0.1 ft
- Angle measurement in 360° degrees, 400° grads, or percentage with a resolution of 0.1°
- 5,000 data sets can be stored in the built-in memory and saved as a CSV file
- Bluetooth® 4.0 (BLE) can be used to transfer data wirelessly to Android, iOS, or Windows devices
- (BAF)
- Basal Area Function to determine the minimum DBH a tree must have at the sampling point to be counted
- Multi-language, select your preferred language
Measurement Functions
The Vertex 5 is developed to measure tree height, but it is, of course, possible to measure any height preferred.
The instrument measures distance and angles and then calculates heights using trigonometry up to 999 metres or 3277 feet, with a resolution of 0.1 m.
Height
Aim at the transponder. Press and hold ON until the crosshair turns off and the distance is obtained.
Aim at the height to be measured. Press and hold ON until the crosshair turns off and the measured height is displayed.
It is also possible to measure only the distance or the angle, for example, the slope angle.
Sample Plots
When using the centre plot staff with the 360˚ adapter at the centre of a sample plot, you can easily measure the distance and check if the trees in the plot are within the correct radius to be measured.
Sample Points
When using a prism or similar, there is the BAF "Basal Area Function" to check the minimum (DBH) the tree must have to be counted at the sampling points.
BAF Factors: 0.5, 1 to 9 (m2/ha) or 5, 10, 15...to 50 (ft2/acre).
The Vertex 5 can be used in dense vegetation and undergrowth.
